E-9

A 2.4 meter boom is held by a ball and socket joint at point C and by two cables, AD and AE. Determline the tension in each cable and the reaction at C.

The FBD of the boom is drawn and the length of the two
cables are found.
The moment equation about the x axis through point A
yields an equation for FCy.
Using arithmetic one reaction at C is found.
The length of the two cables is given again.
A more complete FBD of the boom is drawn.
